The Uva Provincial Council has played a significant role in advancing development within the province, focusing on sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, and rural development. One noteworthy initiative has been the establishment of awards to promote productivity and excellence in public service. For instance, under the leadership of Helen Samarasinghe, the former Deputy Chief Secretary of Personnel and Training, a "Productivity Awards Competition" was introduced to improve performance and efficiency within public institutions. This initiative set a model for other provinces to follow, encouraging enhanced public service delivery across various departments.

The Uva Provincial Development Plan, launched in 2019 with support from the European Union and the UNDP, also aims to address key areas such as food security, industrial development, and human development, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This development plan sets the foundation for long-term improvements in the province, guided by evidence-based planning and community involvement.
