Demodara railway station is located between ella railway station and odooware railway halt. Lies 277.7 km away from colombo fort railway station and 912.5 meters above the mean sea level. The railway station was built in 1921 , but it was opened to the public in february 5th ,1923. 76th  railway station along the main line. Demodara railway station is a very especial railway station in sri lanka, as the railway station is located on top of.42 rail way tunnel which is 126.70 meters long. Extending railway line from bandarawela to badulla started in 1894 and finished 1926. Ella to hali-ela part was the most inexpedient part of the work. Extending from demodara to badulla was the almost impossible event at that time. Extending railway was unable due to badulu-oya and gawarawela stream as well as the hillock.
The british and ceylon railway engineers came to a decision to erect the railway track around the bondi gala hillock and drilled a tunnel – tunnel no:42 with 170 meters ( 416 feet ) in length and erected the black bridge to gawarawela oya and completed the railway track to badulla. After drilling the tunnel, the demodara railway station is on top of the railway tunnel. This is an engineering marvel.
