Gal Oya National Park

Gal oya National park  being the main cascade for Inginiyagala reservoir covers the area of 63,000ha. This was stared as a national park in 1954 and the specialty in here is the ability to see the elephants and tuskers throughout the year. There are facilities for jungle camping and boat journeys for the tourists centering this reservoir and national park. There are number of ancient ruins including the marvelous naturalcreation “Makaraya” (the place where water goes invisible among the rocks at the point Gal Oya meets Inginiyagala reservoir). Paths constructed for kings in the period of King Dutugamunu and the herbal garden of King Buddhadasa. The main entrances to this area comes from Ampara and Bibila.
