Mahiyangana Temple

Mahiyangana sacred area is a highly venerated place, sanctified by Lord Buddha’s first visit  in 6th B.C. is situated closed by the river Mahaveli and endowed with a beautiful stupa in which Lord Buddha’s hair which was given to Lord Saman relies are treasured. There is a separate shrine for Lord Saman. The religious procession annually held with the participation of local aborigines (Veddah Community) is very popular.
